Benefits Of Manuka Honey For Health And How To Use It For Each Problem
Wound Healing
The wound healing properties of manuka honey make it a great remedy for minor scrapes and cuts. But for severe wounds, consult your doctor accordingly for better wound assessment.
To use: Assess the wound to see if the fluid is leaking from it. The more fluid leaks your wound has, the more amount of honey you should use. Put an ample amount of honey on a bandage, and cover the wound with the honeyed-bandage. Do not apply manuka honey directly to the wound. Change the dressing as often as needed, especially when leaks are too much.
Sore Throat
Manuka honey is best for sore throat prevention. If you are already suffering from the infection, taking this honey can help alleviate your symptoms.
To use: Take 1 tablespoon of manuka honey with warm water every day. You may also mix it with warm water laced with lemon juice for better effect.
Acne
Thanks to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, manuka honey is an effective home remedy for acne problems.
To use: Wash your face with warm water. Pat dry. Cover your face with a thin layer of manuka honey, and leave it on for 15-20 minutes as you would with other face masks. Rinse well to remove any sticky residue.
Eczema
Among honey, manuka honey has the strongest antibacterial properties that can kill Staphylococcus aureus, a bacteria most often found in people with eczema.
To use: Mix equal parts of honey, beeswax, and olive oil. Apply the paste to the affected area three times a day.

Next: Can Manuka Honey Make My Skin Less Red And Irritated
My experience: I have rosaceaan inflammatory skin condition that causes rednessand though its not severe, I do experience acute flare-ups now and again. At the start of the honey cleansing trial, my skin was exhibiting its usual degree of low-grade inflammationa small rosy patch on my upper cheek. Unfortunately, after using the honey cleanser for a full week, there was minimal reduction in my redness.
What the science says: Since rosacea may be triggered by Bacillus oleronius bacteria and the Demodex folliculorum mite, honey has been of interest as a possible treatment due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, Dr. Chang says.
She notes a pilot study published in BMJ Open in 2015 in which 138 participants with rosacea applied either a cream containing kanuka honey or a control cream to their faces twice a day for eight weeks. Results showed that 34 percent of those in the honey group showed improvements in redness after eight weeks compared to just 17 percent in the control group, suggesting that the honey cream may have been more effective at reducing the symptoms of rosacea than a placebo.
For this reason, I again had high hopes that manuka honey could help my skin. However, I didnt see much of a difference at the end of the week.

Do Dermatologists Recommend Honey As An Eczema Treatment

Dr. Saedi says honey works for some people, but shes not fully on board. Some people swear by it and think its the best thing, but I dont personally recommend it as a product, she says.
Dr. Yin warns that while honey does have some great attributes, people should not rely solely on it to treat eczema flares. More rigorous scientific studies are needed to confirm its benefits in this setting, she says.
Finally, Friedmann says he wouldnt recommend it to patients, either. He says there are plenty of products available at the drugstore that can do just as good a job as honey and without the mess.

Research Suggests Manuka Honey May Help Treat Eczema
Natalie Yin, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at U.S. Dermatology Partners in Colorado, says that honey can help treat eczema because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Those elements can keep skin issues from occurring, or minimize swelling or redness when they do pop up. While regular honey is well known for its antimicrobial properties, manuka honey is the front-runner of honeys for non-peroxide antimicrobial activity, according to research published in in the journal AIMS Microbiology. According to the NCI, manuka honeys antibacterial properties come from the concentration of its active ingredient, called methylglyoxal, because it appears to release hydrogen peroxide. The NCI also notes that the honey has been said to help with wound repair, which could help eczema patches heal.
Another plus for patients with eczema: Honey can help keep skin hydrated. Honey could work, because it is an incredibly thick emollient that would help trap moisture in the skin, says Daniel P. Friedmann, MD, a board-certified dermatologist with Westlake Dermatology in Austin, Texas. Trapping moisture is key, because people with eczema have skin that struggles to hold onto hydration, hindering its ability to protect against bacteria, allergens, and other irritants, according to Mayo Clinic.

Here are some of the reasons why people are becoming so excited about this sweet product:
