Is Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Associated With Disney
Despite Milne’s 1926 Winnie the Pooh book entering the public domain, Disney still owns exclusive use of their interpretations of Pooh Bear and his friends, according to Variety.
“We’ve tried to be extremely careful,” said Waterfield on the podcast. “We knew there was this line between that, and we knew what their copyright was and what they’ve done. So we did as much as we could to make sure was only based on the 1926 version of it.”
What Has The Director Said About Disney Copyright And Plot Worries
Although copyright laws no longer apply to A.A Milnes earliest Winnie the Pooh stories after lapsing five months ago, the Disney franchise has exclusive rights to interpretations of Tigger, Piglet and the rest of the Hundred-Acre Wood gang.
Director and writer Rhys Waterfield spoke to Variety about the risks they took when re-creating the much-beloved story.:
He said: Weve tried to be extremely carefulWe knew there was this line between that, and we knew what their copyright was and what theyve done, so we did as much as we could to make sure was only based on the 1926 version of it.
Is Disney Losing Winnie The Pooh
No. Disneys Pooh is still protected, but the company no longer has an exclusive right to Milnes work.
The “Blood and Honey” producers had to be careful to not step too close to Disney’s version. While the movie character’s mask is clearly Disney Pooh, the bear has swapped his famed red shirt for a lumberjack shirt and Piglet dons all black.

How Does Walt Disney Feel About This
The House of the Mouse has not commented on the film and bloody outcry.
But Winnie the Pooh is among the most valuable media franchises in the world, accumulating more than $80 billion through the years, putting it on par with Mickey Mouse, according to The Motley Fool. The investing advice company estimates that Pooh and friends generate $3 billion to $6 billion annually for Disney.
“Disney is going to lose millions and a valuable copyright that its been able to leverage on all sorts of merchandise. But its had protection for years and has been granted term extensions,” Donald P. Harris, associate dean for academic affairs at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, told the university’s website.
Where Was Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Filmed

Inspired by the story from English author A. A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was filmed in 10 days in England.
Variety also reports that the upcoming horror film was shot near Ashdown Forest, which was the location that inspired Hundred Acre Wood.
Although the filmmaker did not reveal the budget for the film, he did tell the outlet it is not a Hollywood-size budget.
He said fans “shouldnt be expecting this to be a Hollywood-level production.”
The new film was produced by Jagged Edge Productions. Waterfield runs the company along with co-producer Scott Jeffrey.
ITN Studios will be responsible for the film’s distribution.

The film was shot “in 10 days in England, not far from Ashdown Forest, the inspiration for Milnes imaginary Hundred Acre Wood in the Winnie the Pooh stories.”
Director detailed more of the story in a recent interview, saying: “Christopher Robin is pulled away from them, and hes not them food, its made Pooh and Piglets life quite difficult. Because theyve had to fend for themselves so much, theyve essentially become feral. So theyve gone back to their animal roots. Theyre no longer tame: theyre like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”

The original Winnie the Pooh stories recently became public domain, which is how the filmmakers are able to make this movie without being sued by Disney. However, Disney still owns the rights to the friends featured in the stories, such as Tigger, so they will not be in the movie.

Winnie The Pooh And Piglet Go On A Bloody Rampage In Their Horror Movie’s Wild Trailer
Winnie the Pooh‘s cuddly persona just got a whole lot darker in a new reimagining of the beloved children’s book character. Just seven months after A.A. Milne’s original “Winnie the Pooh” stories entered the public domain, its mainstay figure has forayed into the world of horror for a forthcoming indie slasher flick.
“Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” directed, written, and coproduced by Rhys Waterfield, envisions Winnie the Pooh and Piglet as demonic serial killers who go on a rampage after their college-bound friend Christopher Robin abandons them. On May 25, first-look photos from the movie were released online, followed by a terrifying trailer on Aug. 31, which promptly set social media ablaze with many shocked to see such a ghastly departure for a childhood favorite and star of several iconic Disney movies.
Waterfield told Variety in May that the public’s response to the horror film so far has been “absolutely crazy.” In regard to its premise, the director explains that the slasher aspect of its main villains derives from a basic need to survive. “Christopher Robin is pulled away from them, and he’s not them food, it’s made Pooh and Piglet’s life quite difficult,” he said. “Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral. So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”
Who’s In The Cast Of Winnie
As the debut film for indie filmmaker Rhys Waterfield, the cast is limited. Winnie-the-Pooh will be played by relatively new-to-the-game actor, Craig David Dowsett. Dowsett will also be appearing in the upcoming comedy-horror movieThe House That Zombies Built, which is currently filming. Piglet will be played by Chris Cordell. Like his co-star, he is no stranger to this genre, which takes childhood stories and warps them into a twisted horror-comedy. His first feature-length film was The Curse of Humpty Dumpty, followed by Spider in the Attic, which was produced by Rhys Waterfield.
Amber Doig-Thorne, who is co-starring with Craig David Dowsett in The House That Zombies Built, will be the lead scream queen. She is joined by Natasha Tosini , , Natasha Rose Mills , May Kelly , and Danielle Ronald . Christopher Robin will be played by British actor Nikolai Leon. This will be his second film and collaboration with director Rhys Waterfield, following the release of Demonic Christmas Tree. Christopher Robins fiancée, Mary, will be played by Paula Coiz .

Will Other Winnie The Pooh Characters Appear In Blood & Honey
The Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey trailer has hinted there might be appearances from the other Hundred Acre Wood residents, even if they are just cameos. When Christopher Robin returns from college, he sees a sign in the woods that reads Eeyore R.I.P. Eeyore being killed and eaten shows that Piglet and Pooh have been starving. Beyond a potential flashback or reference, however, the remaining Winnie-The-Pooh characters will not feature prominently in this slasher. According to Variety, Tigger and several of the other iconic talking animals are not characters in the film because Disney holds separate copyright restrictions over them. That does not mean that they will be altogether absent from the story, though.
The action-packed slasher will be filled with gruesome moments to distract from the absence of the other Hundred Acre Wood animals. This rendition of A. A. Milne’s book could inspire creators to continue reinventing these characters in adaptations unique to Disney’s faithful ones. The only characters of Milne’s in Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey confirmed to be shown onscreen are Pooh, Piglet, and Christopher Robin.
When Will Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Be Released

According to Variety, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey wrapped production in early May this year, but an official release date has yet to be announced.
“Because of all the press and stuff, we’re just going to start expediting the edit and getting it through post-production as fast as we can,” Waterfield told the outlet. “But also, making sure it’s still good. It’s gonna be a high priority.”

The Blood And Honey Trailer Is Every Bit As Bonkers As You Might Imagine
Before we get into the oh-so gruesome sights in the “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” trailer, a little set-up might be in order as longtime Pooh friends might be confused by the “tubby little cubby all stuffed with honey” becoming a blood-thirsty psycho killer. As “Blood and Honey” helmer Rhys Frake-Waterfield explained to Variety, Christopher Robin has long left his 100 Acre Woods days behind, leaving Pooh and pals to survive on their own. As the director notes, “Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral … they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”
Judging from the “Blood and Honey” trailer, they find prey aplenty, beginning with Christopher Robin and his gal pal Mary , who meet a morbid end when Pooh’s former bestie returns to his 100 Acre haunt to introduce his old pals to his soon-to-be bride. We next meet a group of ladies who’ve rented a posh house near those very woods for a girls’ weekend. Smelling a feast, Pooh and Piglet played by Craig David Dowsett and Chris Cordell behind masks that likely convey all too clearly the film’s likely budgetary restrictions are quickly on the hunt, with “Blood and Honey” turning into a full-on slasher meets cabin in the woods meets home-invasion nightmare.
Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Characters
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will feature iconic characters like Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, and Piglet, but will not feature Tigger, as he is a trademarked character and has not entered the public domain.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is not a Disney production nor is it affiliated with Disney in any way.

What Is ‘winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey’ Based On
The movie is loosely based on Milne’s famous characters.
Director Rhys Waterfield, who also wrote and co-produced the film, told Variety in May that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a horror film starring Pooh and Piglet as “the main villains going on a rampage” after being abandoned by a college-bound Christopher Robin. While Robin was away at school, the two once-lovable pals turned “feral” in their quest for food and survival. “Its made Pooh and Piglets life quite difficult,” Waterfield said.
The film was shot in 10 days in England, not far from Ashdown Forest, the inspiration for Milnes imaginary Hundred Acre Wood in the “Winnie the Pooh” stories.
A “Blood and Honey” poster issued last month carried the warning, “This ain’t no bedtime story.”
A release date for the film hasn’t been announced.
Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Leaves Fans Fresh Out Of Bothers
The last time we saw a live-action Winnie the Pooh movie, the end result was the whimsical and sickly sweet Christopher Robin, which drew plenty of praise from critics and earned close to $200 million at the box office. Now that Disneys exclusivity over the beloved childrens character has ended, with the rights entering the public domain, it was only natural that the next step for the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood would be a blood-soaked, R-rated horror.
The internet has become instantly captivated, eminently curious, and a little bit freaked out by the existence of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which has been rushed through production by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, and is set for release before the end of the year. Plot details remain under wraps for now, but were expecting the unexpected given that were talking about the honey-loving bear and his associates being turned into violent murderous maniacs.
As you can see from the reactions below, Blood and Honey has generated a wide range of emotions among the online community, many of whom arent quite sure if this is real, or some kind of twisted fever dream.

Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Synopsis/plot
You will be seeing the cute Winnie and Piglet turned feral, going on a murderous rampage after being abandoned by Christopher Robin, who left the Hundred Acre Wood to discover his adulthood. Post abandonment, Pooh and Piglet became resentful as they had to go into the wild to take care of themselves, urging them to go back to their animal instincts. So, they are no longer your cute, fluffy characters but more like a vicious bear and pig duo who will go around in search of their prey.
The movie definitely will take you on a wild journey!

Is There A Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Trailer
Jagged Edge Productions released the first official trailer for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey on Aug. 31. Within the nearly two minute-long clip, it’s safe to say that the slasher film features far more blood than it does honey.
The trailer begins with Christopher Robin and his female love interest on a trek to find Pooh and Piglet, whom Christopher says were his “friends of many years.” As the couple walk into the eery forest, a weathered jar of honey flashes on the screen, in addition to a wooden sign that reads “100 Acre Woods” in what appears to be you guessed it blood.
With suspenseful music building in the background, his love interest spots another sign that reads “Eeyore R.I.P.” followed by her suggestion to “quickly leave,” but Christopher insists that they stay.
Quickly, chaos ensues. Pooh appears on the screen, in a manner that is far from cuddly and Piglet is no different, as he’s pictured with an ax on a killing rampage. The suspenseful music then combines with screams for a trailer that seriously sets the scene.

During his childhood, Christopher Robin befriended Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, and their friends, playing games and also providing them with food. As he grew, these visits grew more infrequent, as did the food supply, causing Pooh and the others to grow increasingly hungry and desperate. When Christopher went to college, the visits stopped completely, causing them to become completely feral and unhinged, resulting in Eeyore getting killed at some point. Now, Christopher has returned to the forest alongside his new wife, hoping to introduce her to his old friends. This causes them to go on a murderous rampage for human flesh as they antagonize a group of university girls who are occupying a rural cabin.
